February is here!

Last weekend we went over to my in-law's house to celebrate my niece Angela's 2nd birthday.  It was also a "make it or break it" Game Day for the Patriots, with a win securing their spot in the Superbowl, so I made sure ahead of time that I would be able to watch the game over there.  Much to my surprise, despite the fact that the house was FULL of small kids (14 of them, to be exact!!), I was able to watch the game in it's entirety.  It was much like being in a bar, except for instead of loud adults it was loud children and instead of the smell of beer it was diapers!  haha!

We didn't end up registering Kyle for that Robotics class due to transportation issues.  I don't think Kyle's godfather could commit to taking him every Tuesday for 7 weeks and I didn't want to spend all that money and have him not attend a class or two because I couldn't figure out a way to get him there.  It seemed like it might be stressful, so the logical thing was to just pass on it for now.  I'm sure there will be other opportunities down the line.

I must admit that only have a small handful activities going on during the week has been refreshing!  The kids are enjoying being able to have friends over more frequently, which is a definite bonus.  They're still getting all of the socialization without having to be rushed around from point a to point b.  Of course having friends over is a smidgen more work for me, but that's okay.

On Saturday Auntie Nancy came over in the morning for a little visit.  We always have a great time hanging out with her!  She sold about 45 boxes of cookies for Bella at her work which was awesome!  And speaking of cookies -- On Saturday night I had plans to take Bella over to St. Brendan's for the 5p Mass so that we could sell cookies afterwards.  Unfortunately our plans to do that changed when Sebastian woke up from his nap with a horrible cough and a 104 degree fever.  Amazingly, despite the fact that it was 3p on a Saturday afternoon, his Dr. was able to see him in the office!!  And it's a good thing, too, since Sebastian ended up having a double ear infection and croup!!  Talk about feeling miserable!  It never ceases to amaze me how quickly a baby can go from appearing to be 100% healthy to 100% SICK with very little warning at all.  Earlier that day both Auntie Nancy and myself had commented on how clumsy Sebastian was being - tripping and falling all morning.  Apparently his balance was thrown off because of his ear infections!  Anyhow...while I still could have taken Bella to St. Brendan's I decided to stay home because I felt that Sebastian needed me to be with him.  He was - understandably - super cranky.

Back to the cookies - Knowing that we were going to have to skip doing the booth sale at Church I started to do a little brainstorming about what Bella could do to still sell cookies.  Prior to the weekend I had taken her for a walk down Rounds Ave to try to sell door-to-door but after 45 minutes she had only sold 1 box of cookies.  Either all of the other Scouts have already hit all the houses or people just don't want to buy.. In any event, I knew that taking her door-to-door in this area wasn't going to be worth the effort anymore.  Also, I wanted to be home for Sebastian.  As I was sitting in the living room tossing around different ideas in my head I noticed how much traffic was going up and down our road...and that's when I had what turned out to be an absolutely BRILLIANT idea: set up a booth-like sale right on our front lawn!!!  We loaded up the wagon with a bunch of different kinds of cookies, using empty cookie case boxes as our display on both sides of the wagon, and set things up right on the edge of our front lawn.  Bella put her uniform on, grabbed her sign and excitedly yelled "GIRL SCOUT COOKIES FOR SALE" to each and every car that passed by.  Within 10 minutes flat she was selling cookies and we knew that we were in business!  Kyle and I organized a great system - utilizing his new walkie-talkies, he had one and I had one.  I stayed inside with Sebastian and every time a car would pull up Kyle would "ring" me on the walkie-talkie to tell me - then I would go outside to help make the transaction.  It was a perfect plan!!  Best of all?  The plan WORKED!  In fact, it worked so well that they sold cookies TWICE on Saturday and again on Sunday afternoon!!  When all was said and done, Bella sold over $500 worth of cookies!  AND she also sold at St. Brendan's after the 8a Mass on Sunday.  Despite the fact that Sebastian was still sick, I didn't want to leave Tammy Primmer hanging at CCD.  So I took Bella and Kyle to the 8a Mass, sold cookies with Bella after the Mass and then went over to CCD.  She did well selling the cookies there but it was way too much work and too stressful for me getting the cookies there and getting us set up and situated. I was completely rushing around from the moment my morning started.  But..done and overwith now!

Today is February 1st.  Sebastian is still sick and Savannah woke up coughing, therefore we're not off to the best start but we're one month closer to Spring!!
