The past 4 weeks have brought me some of the best times of my life, with just a small sprinkle of difficulty here and there. For the most part I tend to walk around in a sleep deprived fog. If you thought I was a "homebody" before you probably think I'm a hermit now! I only venture out on an "as needed" basis, not only because I have no desire to take the baby out of the house but also because I'm simply too tired to drive! I'm actually kind of amazed at how well I'm able to function, given the small amount of sleep I get! Somehow I'm still able to keep my little ship afloat over here in my home. More or less..
As the weeks pass by I'm discovering different ways to make things just a little easier for myself. One of my biggest challenges lately has been getting dinner prepared for the older kids. Eggs, Toast, Pop-Tarts and Raisins were amongst some of the foods on the kids dinner menu..and while there weren't any complaints from my growing peanut gallery, each night I would go to bed feeling guilty that they didn't eat a proper dinner. I've come to the conclusion that I either need to spend a day or two preparing a bunch of meals that can be easily frozen and defrosted or I need to prepare the meals early in the morning, before Jim leaves for the day. On Thursday morning I was in the kitchen at 9A preparing a full chicken dinner. It really wasn't something that I felt like doing, but I was happy come dinner time when I was able to give the kids a decent meal!
Another change I've made is allowing the kids to play in the backyard without me there. For about a week Kyle was complaining that his legs felt "tired". He would go to Karate and come home feeling exhausted. At first I thought he might be coming down with something but then I realized that his tiredness was a direct result of him not getting even close to the amount of exercise he got during the summer months. With Sebastian being so small and the colder weather fast approaching I decided to come up with a few basic rules for the kids and let them play in the yard. And even though I'm not with them back there, I am still supervising them at all times. I sit in the dining room and watch them through the window.
The term "super-mom" has taken on a whole new meaning since the baby arrived. I am ten thousand times more busy now than I've ever been in my entire life! Fortunately I've long since mastered the art of multi-tasking and juggling. When my full plate starts to spill over I re-evaluate my list of priorities and omit things on an as needed basis.
Here are some of the most recent photos:
Left: Daddy feeds the baby while big sister Bella supervises
Right: This is how Sebastian felt after the Elections..very disappointed, to say the least..
I've started to transition him from the bassinet to his crib so that he's spending more of his sleeping time up in his room versus in the living room.
He still sleeps way more than he's awake, but when he is awake he is super alert!
My perfect little (big) family:
