Trick Or Treating Fun!

In the weeks leading up to Halloween, the girls & Kyle spent quite a bit of time debating over what they wanted to wear.  In the end, Kyle decided he would utilize all of his "army" clothes and accessories and the girls agreed to be witches.  It turned out to be one of the least expensive Halloween's we've ever had, as the kids already had all of the clothes they would need!  We spent $2.50 per witch hat for the girls, and a couple of dollars on some make-up.  That was it!

The kids were really anxious and excited to go out Trick Or Treating on Friday night.  Both girls fully understood the meaning behind this super fun holiday and the thought of walking around the neighborhood in the dark collecting candy was quite appealing to them!  They spent all day asking if it was dark outside yet..haha!

Jim had a lot of fun helping to get everyone ready.  He started with Savannah....I got her dressed and then he began applying her "witch" make-up; some green and black face paint.  He put the tiniest bit of green on her nose and let her look at herself in the mirror...  She FREAKED out!  Almost immediately she started to cry!  She said she didn't want to be a witch anymore...haha!  We convinced her that she could be a "good witch", without make-up, and she finally settled down..until Jim went to work on Bella's face...  Now Bella, being "Miss Personality", wanted to be the scariest, spookiest witch possible.  She had no problem letting Jim paint her face and she was very pleased with the end result:
As soon as Jim was done painting her face she set off to find Savannah, who was none too pleased when she laid eyes on her witchy sister.  The tears began rolling again and this time she claimed that she wasn't going to go Trick Or Treating, she wanted to stay home with me.   She was spooked to the max!! I told her that she could go to just a few houses and if she still wasn't having fun then she could come back home...
Meanwhile Kyle was busy getting into all of his army gear!  Equipped with grenades, nerf gun bullets, a plastic knife and other random "army items", he looked pretty great when all was said and done!  After posing for a quick "group" picture, they were officially ready to hit the pavement!
This year Mike went with Jim to take the kids Trick Or Treating while I stayed home with the new one.  It was very helpful for Jim to have an extra set of eyes on the kids as they strolled around in the dark.  They arrived home 2 hours later -- and I'm pretty sure Savannah, the one who was miserable prior to go out, had the most fun she's ever had in her life!  Jim and Mike said she couldn't get her hands on enough candy, haha!  She truly enjoyed every aspect of Trick Or Treating, as did the others!

As for Sebastian and I...well, we passed out candy to about a dozen or so Trick Or Treaters before I turned off the lights. I was put off by how many children were escorted up to the house in cars.  Jim thinks it's maybe because we live on such a busy road but I think it's more that the parents and children are lazy.  Part of the fun of Trick Or Treating comes from walking around in the dark, after all!  In my opinion, if you don't want to walk around to get candy then maybe you shouldn't get any candy in the first place.  We live in such an obese society -- and yet we wonder why??  Geesh!  I loved the "goodie bags" that Joan and Mike put together for the older kids; lots and lots of packages of goldfish crackers with some mini candy bars mixed in!  A perfect assortment!

Halloween kicked off the 1st of many, many holidays for Sebastian!
(and to think that I thought he wasn't going to be born until *after* Halloween!)
