Our Birthday Letter To Kyle

I'll be spending all of today in the kitchen.  This Italian mama will be preparing a simple (but yummy) Italian buffet for Kyle's big celebrations tomorrow!
And because tomorrow will be so very busy for us here is my open note to my firstborn:
From the moment you were born, with only half of your heart working, you proved to have a greater strength than even the strongest of grown men.  You not only beat the odds, but you created your own statistics.  The doctors warned us that you might have developmental delays.  Before they even hooked you up to the breathing machines they warned us that you might have brain damage.  But day by day, month by month, year by year you hurdled over milestones.  At 15 months old you hit the ground running and you never looked back.  You've always been so full of energy, never slowing down!  You learned the letters of the alphabet at 18 months old and by the time you were 4 you were doing simple, basic math equations.  Now, at 10 years old, I am in awe over how intelligent you are.  You have surpassed every learning goal we've set for you; you excel in every subject.
And you are, without a doubt, your fathers son.  You can do just about anything that you set your mind to and you learn quickly.  If something is broke, you can fix it.  From mechanics to plumbing, building to roofing, painting to remodeling; you've had more hands-on experience than people who are 3 times your age.
In our eyes, you are an amazing, bright, brilliant little boy.  You are SO respectful, polite, kind hearted, generous, selfless and thoughtful. Most of all, your heart is full of gold.  There is a flame within you that burns so brightly.  As quickly as God handed you to us, He could have taken you away.  But he didn't.  He must have known that you would make a difference in the world.
Words can not even begin to describe how incredibly proud we are of you!!
Happy Birthday, buddy!  May all of your birthday wishes come true!
