If there is one true thing to be said about living in New England, it is that the weather here is anything but predictable! We may have 4 seasons, but they seem to get confused on a fairly regular basis! Take, for example, yesterdays weather: We woke up to a bright blue, sunny sky. By 9:30a the temps had climbed up into the high 70's. I was able to dry 4 full loads of laundry out on the line within a 3 hour time frame. It truly felt like a summer day - so much so that I cleaned out the little kiddie pool, changed the kids into their bathing suits, slathered them in sunscreen and let them play in the yard for most of the day. They sat at the picnic table and ate sandwiches and watermelon for lunch, followed by ice cream cones for snack. They played in the tree fort, on the tire swing and in the sandbox. They fought a little and a smiled a lot. It was a perfect summer day. Only wait...it's not summer here yet. It's Spring....and now today the temps aren't expected to reach past 60 degree's! The forecast prediction for the rest of the week consists of lots of gray, gloomy, rainy skies. Crazy!
Kyle had his 1st Communion rehearsal with Mrs. Primmer last night. There are 2 other kids receiving their 1st Communion on Sunday, too. One of the parents said that her cousin is a professional photographer and - with Fr. Codega's permission - will be taking pictures for the families. How nice! I think Kyle is looking forward to his special day. Mrs. Primmer does a great job with helping the kids to feel comfortable - she always goes over everything in great detail, making sure the kids understand what is expected of them and also what they should expect in return. The 1st Communion will take place during Sunday Mass so it's not going to be a big production.
I ordered a special, personalized Communion gift for Kyle online yesterday. It cost *way* more than what I had originally planned on thanks to the wonderful world of Internet shopping. Don't get me wrong, I prefer to shop online. It's not only more convenient for me but it's also less time consuming, too. That being said, every now and again I get screwed. It doesn't happen often, but when it does it infuriates me! In this case I was really blind sided. The gift itself wasn't expensive at all because I had found a 20% off code to use towards it. However, *after* I placed the order, I noticed that the shipping fee was incredibly high. It was supposed to cost $4.99 for "express shipping" which would guarantee the gift to get here by Saturday but I was charged $12.95. I assumed it was just a computer-generated error, so I called the online company. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the Customer Service Rep was but I was none too pleased with what she had to say; sure, the shipping was $4.99. Plus a $3.00 handling fee. Plus a $4.99 "additional" fee that gets ADDED ON to the "express shipping" delivery fee. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Under "normal" circumstances this item wouldn't cost more than $3.00 to ship, if that! So annoying. That being said, this is one of those gifts that holds far more sentimental value than it does financial value, so in the end it's worth it regardless of the cost.
This month is an exceptionally "expensive" month for us. I had to upgrade my cell phone on Saturday because Metro was bought out by T-Mobile so come June the phone that I was using wouldn't be compatible with the new service. I was pretty annoyed because my cell phone was less than 2 years old and in perfect condition. That being said, they gave me a great deal on a new, better phone. The phone itself ended up being free because they gave me a credit towards my old phone, which offset the cost of the new phone, but I still had to pay an "upgrade fee" and I had to buy a new cover for the phone because my old one didn't fit. Then I had to buy Kyle's communion gift. I also had to buy some summer maternity shorts. I have tons of maternity shorts and jeans but *none* of them fit. They are all two sizes too big. I don't even think they will fit me come the end of my pregnancy. We all need summer sneakers and sandals. There are birthday gifts to be bought, along with food supplies for Kyle's big party on Sunday. Fortunately Jim has been bringing in some extra money between the cemetery and overtime hours at work and next week my weekly pay will be higher than usual because I'm helping to care for Sheila's kids before and after school. I'll have my hands full - with 6 kids!! - but they're usually really well behaved so I'm not too concerned.
I've been slowly but surely plugging away at the kids (multiple) summer bins. Switching over the wardrobes is one of my least favorite - and most time consuming - chores. I'm trying to figure out how I want to set up the girls dressers, since soon they'll be sharing a room. I'm wondering if I can fit both of their clothes into the one dresser that is in Bella's room now. I think I might be able to for the summer months, because summer clothes are less bulky than winter clothes, but then I'll have to rearrange things in the Fall..
Our realtor informed me last night that she has someone interested in seeing the house, although she hasn't set up a showing yet. Originally she asked if she could schedule one for Sunday -- no way, jose'! So instead she said she'd try to schedule it for sometime during the week. We've been pretty good at maintaining the house since the last showing - although there's always cleaning that needs to be done when you have a family of 5 with pets!
