I've long since come to the realization that when you are a wife and a mother *every* day is a *busy* day. Even if we don't have any errands to run or activities to attend, *every* day is still a busy day!! There is *always* something that needs to be done; laundry, cooking, cleaning, teaching, etc. Even when we're outside there are things that need to be done; weeding the garden, cleaning up the yard of broken toys, playing referee...(lately the kids are going through a stage where if one is playing with something, they ALL want to play with the same thing..at the same time...) Whether we're having a quiet, low key day or a day in which we're running here, there and everywhere, I am busy. But, for the most part, I really don't mind it.
Last night I spontaneously decided to surprise my Dad with Sam Adams and a Birthday Cake. Originally I was just going to have Jim bring him the Sam Adams when he sees him this morning but when we went to the liquor store after dinner they only had it cold so I decided it'd be better if we delivered it to him instead. Bella asked if there would be cake for Grampy's birthday, so we stopped at Shaw's and picked up a delicious chocolate cake before heading to Warwick. My Dad was super surprised (and happy!) to see us and we ended up having a fantastic night.
After I put Tommy on the bus this morning the kids and I will head to the grocery store to do a quick shopping. I've been trying to get the grocery shopping done on Friday mornings to free up more time over the weekends. It's not exactly convenient to take 3 kids to the store but I'm always glad to get the chore done and over with for another week!
Kyle has Karate and Sparring tonight and Elizabeth (Bella's little friend Myle's Mom) invited Bella to attend a kids play at the local school with them. This will be something new and different for Bella - going out past her bedtime with a friend! - but I think she will have a *great* time! And worse case scenario, the school is only right down the road from us so I'll let Elizabeth know that if Bella needs to come home early, I can go pick her up in a jiffy so that they don't need to leave the play (I believe one of Elizabeth's daughters is actually performing in the play!).
Tomorrow morning we have to go to the local Cell Phone place. The current plan (that we've had for over two years now) is no longer available..bummer! We were paying $30 per phone, per month, which includes taxes, unlimited internet, text, the works! Our monthly bill was exactly $60 - a fantastic deal, especially compared to most places! The "new" plan is now $40 per month (which is still a good deal but it's always a bummer when prices increase instead of decrease!) and requires an upgraded phone. Apparently the phone is free after taxes, but seeing will be believing..
Tomorrow night Kyle is going to Parents Night Out at Karate; a fun event that Dan hosts every couple of months. It's $20 to attend from 6-11p (although we pick Kyle up well before 11, usually around 9) and includes pizza and all sorts of fun, active activities - team dodge ball, obstacle courses etc. Kyle always has a great time and comes home exhausted :)
Sunday is Mothers Day. We will be spending the afternoon at Jim's parents house. (My Mom will be in Maine, so unfortunately we won't be seeing her.) I've asked all of Jim's siblings to bring a dish or dessert to his Mom's so that she can get a well deserved break in the kitchen! I am going to make a "no bake" strawberry dessert and bring hot dogs and buns. Originally I was going to make taco soup in the crockpot but the forecast is calling for a sunny, warm day (mid 70's!) so I thought hot dogs on the grill would be a better idea! I've asked everyone to drop the food off that morning, so that everything is there well in advance - since everyone tends to arrive with their families at different times through-out the day. It should work out perfectly!
