So THAT'S where I left the chicken..

For the past few days I had been noticing a foul smell down in the basement.  At first I thought it was the litter box but shortly after I cleaned it the smell was still fresh in the air.  I honestly couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from & no one else in the family seemed to notice it which led me to believe that I was imagining it.
Last night I went downstairs to see if we had any buffalo wings in the freezer.  It was then that I discovered a cookie sheet lined with tin foil on a chair next to the fridge.  Next to that was an entire package of boneless chicken breast.  Defrosted & spoiled.  And then my memory returned.
On Monday night I had gone downstairs to get some chicken out of the freezer, thinking I would make chicken parm for dinner on Tuesday night.  After I got the chicken out of the freezer I got sidetracked by the cat (Ruby) - who was loudly telling me that she wanted to eat.  While I was feeding her I noticed the laundry needed to be switched over from the washer to the dryer.  While I was switching it over I noticed someone had left the light on in the "Man Cave".  When I went to turn the light off in the "Man Cave" I noticed how disgusting the carpet was & so I decided to give it a quick vacuum.  Then I noticed the garbage was full so I emptied the bin & took it outside....I was so preoccupied that I completely forgot about the chicken.  When Tuesday rolled around & Kyle asked what was for dinner I said to him "I'm not sure.  I thought we had chicken, but I guess we don't".  (Enter 'forehead slap' here)  Instead I made pork.  And so, the boneless chicken sat downstairs in the basement, rotting away.  *sigh*  On a positive note, at least I got to it before Ruby...!
In other news, Kyle continues to spend the majority of his time reading.  He finished reading the last of the library books on Thursday so Mike & I took him over to the library after Karate today to get some more.  This time around I let him take out 7 books.  3 of them are "short, easy to read" stories & the others are a little more challenging.  That was at 11:15a.  It is now 1:30p & Kyle has already ready the 3 easy books & is getting ready to start on of the harder, chapter books.  The chapter books he chose are all by Beverly Clearly & I think he will really enjoy them.  He's read other books by her before, including 'Henry and The Paper Route" which was one of his favorites.
Jim took Savannah with him to Home Depot & Bella is napping so I think I will take advantage of a little quiet time & pick up a book myself!
Oh, my weigh in yesterday wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be!  I didn't gain or lose anything.  Much better than gaining!
