Many people believe in the myth that children who are homeschooled live in bubbles & don't get enough socialization. If you believe in that then you really should "shadow" Kyle for a week!! If he's living in a bubble then it's one heck of a big bubble!!!
He had an exciting weekend! He did an awesome job at Karate on Saturday morning & then he had a great baseball game later that afternoon. He received the "game ball" - very exciting! He made a nice play from the pitchers mound to first base. It was kind of his "moment" where everyone was cheering for him & he knew he had done a good job! I am thrilled that he enjoys the sport as much as he does & continues to do well & make progress!
On Sunday me, Jim, Kyle, Mike & Joan headed over to Pawtucket for the Pinewood Derby Championships. It was organized very well - with each car getting an equal opportunity to race in 3 rounds. At the end of the 3 rounds the computer totalled up the times & the 5 trophies were given out to the 5 fastest cars. Unfortunately, Kyle's car didn't do so great - the competition was fierce & impressive - but he had a lot of fun cheering on his car (as well as everyone elses!)! Below are some of the pictures I took during the event:
We are all so proud of Kyle! The fact that his car made it to the Championships was a huge accomplishment, especially seeing as how this was his first year participating in the Pinewood Derby! While Jim supervised, 90% of the car was built by Kyle - he put a lot of hours & hard work into constructing it. Now the time has come for him to retire his car - there's a special spot on his "trophy shelf" up in his room where the car will go, along with the two trophies he won with it!
Afterward the races Mike & Joan treated us to some delicious ice cream at Newport Creamery to celebrate a job well done by Kyle (and Jim!).
Meanwhile, Auntie Carole kept the girls happy & content at home!
When we got home both girls had big smiles on their faces & were right on schedule. A perfect ending to a great weekend!!
In other news, I went on the treadmill for 45 minutes last night - 2 1/2 miles! Normally I go on for 20 minutes - 30 minutes at the most - but I felt the need to push harder last night to compensate for the splurges that I had over the weekend. I felt great after my work-out & now I'm ready to tackle yet another week of healthy eating & exercise. My next weigh-in isn't until Friday. I'm hoping to shed at least 1 lb this week, seeing as how I didn't lose anything last week.
