Isabella is half way potty trained. She has been going #2 on the potty for weeks now. Infact, I can't even remember the last time I changed a yucky diaper on her. It's a wonderful thing! She tells us when she needs to go & she knows that as a reward she gets two jellybeans. Unfortunately we're still struggling to get her to tell us when she needs to pee. It's mind boggling because she will pee on the toilet each & every time you sit her down on it - but inbetween she's still wetting in her diaper (or her underwear) on a fairly regular basis. She's not doing it on purpose; I just don't think she's aware of when she needs to pee. She's so used to just going whenever she needs to go. When it's time to go #2 she has a little warning. She gets "that" feeling. But when it's time to pee she just doesn't pay any attention. It's really not something we can teach her. I guess she will just figure it out in time. Every day (multiple times per day!) we tell her that if she stays dry she gets candy. It's not working yet,but I'm hopeful that it will happen soon.
One of the things I need to constantly remind myself of is her age. Kyle was 2 1/2 yrs old when we started training him. He wore his last diaper on his 3rd birthday. He never had any problems staying dry through the night & only had a handful of accidents after he turned 3. Isabella doesn't turn 3 until the very end of July (July 31). So technically she is following in Kyle's footsteps with training. I think it's just more frustrating for us this time around because we had started her so young (last year!) & she had been doing SO well. In hindsight, I think it was a waste of time. Sure, at the time it didn't seem that way. She was using the bathroom on a regular basis, keeping her diapers dry & not having any training issues at all. But it was kind of a "fluke"/phase thing. In my mind I thought that she was just going to be an early trainer. Obviously I was wrong. I learned a lesson & will not be starting Savannah until I know FOR SURE that she is ready. It's way too much work to go back & forth & it's definitely way too frustrating, for everyone involved!
But at least Bella is halfway there now! Hopefully she'll be "all the way" there within the next couple of months. She's a smart girl & is getting more & more verbal on a daily basis, so I can't imagine it will be too much longer.
And how nice it will be to only have ONE in diapers!
