Columbus Day Weekend: Saturday

Isabella had a bit of a relapse last night & woke up crying for me at 2:00a & 4:30a.  Both times she was back asleep within minutes.  I wish I could say the same for myself, but I am a very light sleeper & I find it incredibly difficult to get back to sleep once I've been woken up.  On a positive note, Bella continues to fall asleep for both nap & bedtime without so much as a peep & prior to last night she'd gone two nights in a row without waking up so I don't think this phase will continue on for much longer.

My day officially began at 5:45a when Savannah woke up.  While I don't particularly care for getting up that early, I must admit that I do enjoy having some "alone time" w/ my baby.  After a good nights sleep, a diaper change & a warm bottle Savannah is full of smiles & "baby talk".  She makes the cutest little squeaking sounds!  This morning we snuggled up together under a warm fleece blanket (it was pretty chilly in the house..a brisk 60 degrees!) while I enjoyed a freshly brewed cup of coffee (made with Skinny Cow Vanilla Caramel Creme..delicious!)  She was back asleep before my next shift began at 7:00a.

Kyle is a boy of routine (gee, I wonder who he gets THAT from??)..on most mornings he will wake up & look at books until around 7:00a.  Then he will come downstairs & sit next to me in the living room & tell me what time he woke up.  This morning he said he woke up at 3:00a but went back to sleep until 6:48a.  Yes, 6:48a.  Exact.  That's my boy!  He was especially wound up this morning because he knew Grampy (my Dad) would be arriving around 8:30a...so he wolfed down his breakfast, got himself dressed & made his bed long before 8:00a.

Dad arrived around 9:00a to pick up Kyle & Jim.  They're in Vermont from now until Tuesday.  Jim is helping Dad put a new roof on his house.  I decided to stay home with the girls because Savannah HATES the car.  She usually starts screaming just 15 minutes after being strapped into her car seat & there's no relief in sight for her (or us) until we pick her up.  It can make even the shortest of trips (like to the grocery store!) unbearable for ALL of us!  Seeing as how she's only 8 weeks old I simply didn't think it would be fair to stick her in the car for 3 hrs when I know how upset it makes her...so I sacraficed spending a lovely weekend in gorgeous Vermont for her.  Since becoming a parent back in 2004 sacrafices have become part of my daily life.  I really believe it's just part of being a good parent.  The kids needs come first.  Always.

I was feeling pretty sad after Jim & Kyle left with Dad.  I don't like it when our family is split up.  In an effort to take my mind off of things I hung a load of laundry out on the line & then I packed up the girls & headed to the local park.  It was a gorgeous morning - mid 70's, bright blue sky, sun shining bright!  Bella loves to wander around the park.  She loves to "people watch",too.  Occasionally she will say hello to the other kids playing but for the most part she keeps to herself & enjoys the freedom of being able to walk around the entire length of the park (it's fenced in).  Savannah seems to like the fresh air.  I stick her in the Baby Bjorn & within minutes she's fast asleep.

Later that afternoon, after naps, my sister Carole came to visit.  We decided that a little "girls only" night was in order, so we got the kids ready & headed to Friendly's for dinner & then to the mall.  Bella was SO well behaved at both the restaurant & the mall.  Savannah cat napped in the Baby Bjorn for most of the time.  I got her ears pierced - she did great!  I had Bella's ears pierced when she was 10 months old but decided to get Savannah's done sooner..just to get it out of the way.

By the time we got home it was past everyone's bedtime.  The kids were good & tired & went right to sleep.  Kyle called to tell me about his fun day.  Jim still has a lot of work to do on the roof but he accomplished quite a bit & was relaxing for the rest of the night.  I'm tired but I'm betting I won't get a good nights sleep.  I never do when Jim's not home!  But at least we all had a great day today & hopefully the rest of the weekend will go by just as smoothly for us :)
