Dear Kyle & Isabella,
Shortly after I gave birth to Isabella I told myself I would exercise often & eat better in an effort to lose the "baby" weight.
That was 7 months ago.
Every morning when I wake up I think to myself "Today I will eat better, exercise more & fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans".
By lunch-time I'm eating whatever is handy - granola bars/pop-tarts/cheese sticks etc.
Every day I make sure you two munchkins eat healthy - lots of veggies, fruits, milks & low-sugar juices. Yet I eat unhealthy every-single-day!!
The time has come for me to take better care of myself so that I can continue to take good care of you two.
Lately I've been feeling very sluggish, run-down, tired & low on energy. This is a direct result of my poor eating habits & lack of exercise. I've only myself to blame. It's time for me to take charge of my own body.
I need to self-motivate myself - I need to eat smaller portions & make better food choices - I need to exercise for at least 20 minutes per day/night.
And so begins my challenge - to lose 10 lbs in 30 days. I'm not sure how realistic that is given my lack of will power -- but that's my goal. :-)

Hi PJBV-
I have been using an online calorie-tracking website called sparkpeople.com and it's working GREAT. It's free and takes about a week or so to get completely set up (a lot of the processed food we eat are not in there, so you have to take the time to enter them yourself), but after that you just go in and click on the foods you have eaten for each meal and snack. You set your goals (how mch weight you want to lose and in what amount of time) and the program caluclates your calories, fat, carbs and protein. At the end of each day you run a report to see if you fell within the set limits for each. There's also a place on the website to track exercise goals but I don't use that. I have been using sparkpeople for about a month and have learned what a 400-calorie meal is really all about. My calorie range is 1200-1550 calories per day. I have found it difficult to stay within that range, but I usually do not go over 1650-1700 calories per day. You would be frightened to know how many calories you eat when you're not watching them. I think I was probably eating 2300-2500 calories per DAY! Every little thing adds up!
But with this program, since you are entering everything you eat, you also find that you have to eat certain foods to get the amount of protein, etc that you need, so there isn't much room to eat things like poptarts, etc without going WAY over your calorie limit.
I would say that my appetite has also shrunk b/c I have learned what a 400-calorie meal looks like and I've been trying to eat that size meal for a month.
There's really something to be said for having to enter every single food and having the computer keep you accountable. The hardest part was trying to put in all the little ingredients (1 tbsp olive oil here or a tsp of sugar there).
Anyway, I've lost 3 pounds in a month-my goal was to lose 8 pounds in 10 weeks, so I am doing pretty well.
If you have to log every little thing, it just makes you stop and think about whether you should eat 2 cups of popcorn for snack (total = 50 calories) or 2 Girl Scout cookies (160 calories)!!!!
Hope this helps!
