Lucky was spayed on Friday afternoon. We brought her home on Saturday and - so far - she seems to be healing pretty well. The pain medication makes her feel drowsy and tired but rest is what's best for her. The incision is already beginning to look a lot better. She doesn't bother with it too much. I only let her outside to do her business in hopes that we can avoid any kind of an infection and/or complications. (she typically only runs/jumps when she's outside) The biggest issue we need to keep an eye on is her lock jaw problem. I'm told that pain/stress can trigger it. I have steroids on hand to give her should her jaw lock up but we're hoping she doesn't have an episode. She's been eating great, which is a good sign! The kids have been excellent about leaving her alone and allowing her to get as much rest as possible. They're very concerned about her being in pain - they can tell that she's not herself! - but I keep reminding them that by this time next week she'll be running around and playing fetch again.
Jim and Kyle enjoyed camping with the Boy Scouts over the weekend. On Saturday they canoed to their campsite, which was over 8 miles away! Jim said they were out on the water for well over 4 hours before they arrived at their destination! Unfortunately, while Kyle and Jim really enjoyed being out in the canoes, many of the others did not. I think Jim summed it up best by saying that many kids these days are lazy and not happy to be away from their phones, iPads, laptops, TV's, game systems etc. Kyle, on the other hand, spends very little time in front of screens/electronics. He enjoys playing and being outdoors so canoeing to a campsite in the middle of the woods was right up his alley! Jim did say that once they arrived at the campsite and the kids were done setting up their tents they stopped whining and had a good time, so that's good! They cooked hamburgers and hot dogs, played games and even performed a little skit by the campfire before bed. They also had *perfect* weather for camping, which made the experience that much more fun!!
My last activity with the Girl Scouts (until September) went off without a hitch on Saturday! It was a little hectic for me getting everyone out the door, especially since I had to wake the baby from his nap!, but once we got to the park things settled down. The girls teamed up the older Girl Scouts so they were under constant supervision while they helped clean up the beach area. They had a BLAST looking for - and discovering - all sorts of creatures -- periwinkles, clams, crabs etc. After filling 25 lawn bags with garbage and debris we walked up to the picnic area and enjoyed a pot luck lunch. Everyone chipped in with the set-up and clean-up, which made the afternoon that much more enjoyable!
By the time we got home - after stopping to get Lucky first - it was nearing 3p. By 5p we were all showered and ready to unwind for the rest of the night. I ordered us a couple of sandwiches and we watched a movie until bedtime...a perfect ending to a fantastic day!
The past few days have been much more relaxing than usual. The kids spent most of their time in the pool on Sunday; the girls have taken to the water like fish! Both can keep themselves afloat without a life jacket but we prefer that Savannah still wear hers, at least until she can touch the ground with her feet. We were all pretty lazy yesterday, as it was cold and rainy. It felt great to lounge around in sweatpants all day! The kids colored, played with Legos and kept themselves occupied with various toys and games. Lately we haven't been nearly as lazy as I'd like to be -- so I truly enjoyed having very little to do!!
