While it's true that there are so many great things that are a huge part of the "parenting package", there are also some things that fall into the "not so great" category, too...
Savannah came toddling into our room around 2:30 this morning, announcing that she was wet. (We stopped putting a bedtime diaper on her last month) Dealing with night-time accidents is not something I'm used to; both Kyle & Isabella *maybe* had one accident each during their night-time potty training days. Last night was Savannah's 2nd accident since going diaper-free to bed...and it was just as exhausting to deal with as it was the 1st time. I cleaned her up and put her into my bed before heading up to her room to strip her bed and remake it. Then I brought all of her wet things down to the basement for washing in the morning. By the time I got back into bed it was well after 3:00A and Savannah was wide awake. "Mama, I want my drink and I'm hungry", she said. "I'll get you a drink and food in the morning but right now it's night time. Go to sleep.", I replied. She repeated herself at least 5 more times before Jim grumbled "Savannah! GO TO SLEEP!!". Knowing that Jim had a full day of work ahead of him I decided that it would be best if Savannah and I slept on the couch. Putting her back in her own bed wasn't an option because she was simply too awake and I didn't want to risk having her wake Bella up. We hit the couch at 3:45A but Little Miss Savannah continuously repeated "I'm hungry, I want my drink" until she finally passed out around 6:00A....only to be woken up by her siblings at 7:15A. GOOD GRIEF.
Now the thing with kids is this: They really don't care how tired their parents are. There are swings to be pushed on and games to be played. There are books to be read and meals to be prepared. They don't slow down for anything or anyone (even if they're tired themselves!). So, after gulping down a glass of iced coffee, my day officially began at 7:30A. Before the clock struck 9:00A I had prepared breakfast for everyone, cleaned up breakfast, made Jim lunch and dinner for work, dressed myself, dressed the girls, and washed a load of laundry. By 9:30A we were at the park. After that we did a little shopping, had some lunch and headed home. I hung out a load of laundry to dry, washed another load, put Savannah down for a nap and started school work with Kyle and Bella. Before I knew it, it was time to wake Savannah, hang out more laundry and prepare dinner all the while doing multiple chores around the house (cleaning the pool, emptying out the garbage bins, putting away clothes etc). In between all of this I was reading books to the kids, setting up finger paints for them and trying my best to keep the peace amongst the 3 of them. I (very briefly) toyed with the idea of vacuuming out the mini van but then I realized that the shop vac is in the basement and there are 2 bikes in the back of the van. The mere thought of just getting the van ready to be vacuumed makes me feel ten times more tired than I already am, if that's even possible??
When we were at the park this morning I was sitting on a bench watching the kids play. The weather was picture perfect - a sunny, cloudless blue sky with a gorgeous beach-like breeze. I commented to Jim on how I could sit on the bench all day with a good book if given the chance. He chuckled and said "You could if you wanted to. You have all the time in the world". HAHAHAHAHAHA! Let's just say that it's a really good thing for him that looks can't kill. :)
