Today we are expecting a temporary warm (hot) front to cover much of the New England area. By mid-morning any clouds out there now will mostly disappear, leaving the sun blazing by itself in the sky, and the temps are supposed to climb into the 90's with the humidity level reaching close to 100%. After the sun goes down tonight we're expecting the weather to return to "normal" for the next couple of days, which is why we're not jumping to put the A/C's in. There is a window fan up in the girls' room and a stand up fan in Kyle's room -- so far their rooms have been staying comfortable at night. Ideally we'd like to hold off on putting the A/C's in until after we return from VT in July. Maybe we'll be able to wait even longer, depending on the weather.
There was a gorgeous breeze coming in through most of the windows in our house last night which cooled off the house considerably. The temp inside yesterday - during the day - was 77. Now, at almost 7A, it's 72. As soon as I woke up this morning I closed all of the windows on the main floor. I closed the blinds as well and drew the curtains, too. I'm hoping that the cool air that's in here now will stay put with everything all closed up.
Initially I had planned on running a bunch of errands today, because I thought it was going to rain, but now that the forecast has changed and there's no rain in sight I've decided to put those errands on the back burner and just spend the majority of the day outside by the pool with the kids. We have a good supply of popsicles, fruit and cold drinks ready to go! The temp in the pool was close to 80 yesterday so it will probably feel like bath water later on!! I'll make sure to set the yard up with the umbrellas so that there's plenty of shade for everyone.
Kyle has Karate tonight at 5 so unfortunately we'll have to close up the yard earlier than usual. I think what I'll do is send him in around 2 to take a shower and then, when I wake Savannah up from her nap at 2:30, we'll head to the library for about an hour or so. Soon the "summer schedule" will start up at Karate, where morning classes will be offered, which work out *much* better for us. I prefer to get things done and over with first thing in the morning that way we can have the rest of the day to do as we please.
While many people are already complaining about the heat (and have already utilized their A/C's, too!) I am loving this beautiful, sunny weather, as are the kids. It's very relaxing to sit outside and just watch the kids play and - when we're outside all day - our evenings tend to go much smoother. Lately we've been having dinner outside so that by the time we clean up the yard and head inside for showers it's already after 6p. Everyone plays for about an hour and then it's quiet/reading time before bed...a nice way to end an active day!
My biggest concern is actually not about the kids staying cool so much as it is about the DOG staying cool. For some reason she *hates* to stay indoors during the day now. She paces back and forth all around the house until you let her out to the yard. When she's outside she tends to plop herself down right under the sun instead of in a shady spot! And then she will stay in the same spot for HOURS, unwilling to move into the shade or even drink water. She insists upon going outside around 8A and then I have to force her to come in around 8P. With the house being all closed up today I am going to try to keep her in, pretending that we're not home.
Things continue to move at a snails pace with the house showings (on both ends). We haven't gone to see a house in over a month. In the beginning I was willing to view anything and everything that was within our price range but it didn't take long to realize that, because of the areas in which we're looking, the houses are super expensive (priced for the land, not the house) and need tons of work. On the flip side we're advised to sell our house for way less than what it's worth, despite the fact that it's in almost perfect condition!!, because that's "just how the market is" here in East Providence. Our Realtor showed our house on Monday afternoon and, for the first time since the house went on the market, we actually received some feedback! According to the potential buyers agent, they were very interested in the house and pleased with all of the "extra" space. That being said, the buyers have a list of houses that they want to see (ours was only the 2nd one they'd been to this week) and so they'd like to see those first before making a decision about bidding. At this point, because we're not having any luck in finding a suitable house for our family, I think both Jim and I are in agreement that we're ready to take the house off the market. We're really not all that excited about potentially getting a bid on the house because there's "nothing" out there that we're interested in for ourselves!! We're under contract with our Realtor until the end of July and we've given her permission to host an Open House while we're away in Maine (the last week of July) but unless something catches our eye I will cancel the Open House. There's absolutely no sense in wasting anyone's time and it seems absurd to me to push to get someone in here when we have no place to go. My pregnancy is also making me feel anxious about relocating, too. Just the thought of having to pack up my family makes me feel stressed, nevermind having to go through the process of setting up a new house to suit our needs. As I've said before, Jim has customized this house for us. In my eyes, with the exception of the kitchen and the overall location of the house, it's a perfect home. Plenty of space, tons of storage etc. So even if someone comes in with a bid, it really needs to be very close to our asking price before we'll even consider it.
