We usually spend Memorial Day Weekend in Vermont but this year we stayed home because my cousins were having a Surprise 60th Birthday Party for my Aunt Joan. My Aunt Joan and Uncle Dan are the ones who live across the street from my Dad's vacation home in Vermont. My cousins hosted the party in Quincy, MA, at a lovely restaurant located right on a marina, called Captain Fishbones. The food was served buffet style and was absolutely delicious - shrimp, veggie platters and meatballs for appetizers - pasta, steak, salad, roasted veggies and potatoes for the main course. The waiters also brought out platters of chicken and fries for the kids, which I thought was super nice and thoughtful of my cousins (none of whom have children themselves yet) to think of! We all had a wonderful time catching up with family who we haven't seen in far too long! My Aunt Joan seemed very surprised when she walked into a room full of her family and friends - such a memorable, great birthday for her!
After the party Jim and I took the kids for a stroll around the boardwalk on the marina. There were lots of little shops and restaurants. We enjoyed looking at the beautiful boats docked and out on the water -- it was a perfect afternoon!
On Sunday Jim, Kyle and Bella put up the big pool. The kids are excited to go in it - especially the girls! It's going to take a while for the water to heat up though, especially since the temps outside haven't been all that warm yet. I put the chemicals in it yesterday, so it's all set to go now.
Yesterday Kyle marched with Self Defense Training Center in the Memorial Day Parade. The weather was *nothing* like the forecast predicted -- it was *supposed* to be sunny and 85 degrees. Instead it was dreary, cold and sometimes rainy. Fortunately the rain held off for the parade but the rest of the day was pretty blah.
Jim moved all of the baby furniture up into the new nursery - once we know what we're having I will decorate the room accordingly. The new dining room is almost ready for painting. We need to move some furniture pieces out of there first, but the walls are all set (finally). Never again will I buy those "temporary, easily removable wall stickers"!
