Meeting With The Realtor

Patty (our Realtor) came over this morning to check out all of the recent work Jim did in the house.  She was very pleased with everything and said that there's no need for Jim to do anything else; the house is in perfect listing condition.  Then we talked about what houses are selling for in this area and what our competition is looking like.  Right now, houses in Riverside are selling very quickly, with most of them being on the market for only 5-20 days before selling.  They're selling for cheaper than what we're planning on listing for, but many of them have less space inside despite having the same square footage.  Our house looks deceivingly small from the outside - everyone is always shocked to see the amount of space we have once they come inside.   We were really happy when Patty suggested an asking price that was within the same range that we had in mind.  We know what we need to get for this house in order to move and Patty seems confident that we'll be able to sell.  However, while things are looking good on our "selling" homefront, things are somewhat at a standstill on the "buying" end of things.  There are very few houses that have sparked Jim's interest.   Right now the selection is slim..too slim for us to put our house on the market.  Because of this, we've agreed to hold off on listing our house until we find at least 3 houses that we're seriously interested in.  Patty would very much like for us to purchase here in RI because there are an abundance of affordable homes up for sale right now, but we have long since decided that if we can't find a place in Massachusetts, then we'll just stay here until one pops up.  As I've said before, we aren't in any rush.  There isn't a big selection in MA so we'll need to sit tight and be patient for the right house - at the right price - to come our way.  Both Jim & I feel very comfortable with Patty and pleased with all of the time and effort she's already put in to helping us through these beginning stages.  She seems to genuinely understand the position we're in and is not at all pressuring us to make decisions that we don't feel comfortable with.  She's willing to do things at our pace and really seems to be on the same page as us, which is great.
So what's our next step?  We will go look at the few houses that we're semi-interested in next week and then take it from there.  We have no time frame set as to when we'll actually list our house, so there's no stress involved on our end!
