Having a positive outlook really does change everything. My morning started off not so great, mostly because I hardly slept at all last night. Jim ended up working late and, thinking I would be asleep, decided not to call to let me know. When I called him at 12:15A to find out where he was the phone went straight to voicemail, which sent me into a worrying frenzy. By the time he got home - close to 1:00A - I was wide awake and just couldn't get myself to fall into a deep sleep. It was during the early morning hours that I realized I had made Savannah's follow up appointment with the hand specialist in Providence for 9:15A, completely forgetting that I had to put Tommy on the bus at 9:05A. By the time I dragged myself out of bed at 6A I was already feeling overly stressed, which overflowed when I spilled my cup of coffee all over a pile of unpaid bills. As I was cleaning up the mess I knocked over a plant. After that I tripped over a stool and sent a bunch of Little People toys flying all over the place which made the dog jump up and knock over her bowl of water. All before 7:00A. As I sat down to have my coffee I thought to myself "What a bad day this is going to be" and immediately decided to erase that thought from my mind. It was far too early to be predicting what the rest of the day would bring. When you think negative thoughts negative things tend to happen and vice versa. So, I got the kids ready to go a half an hour before Tommy's bus arrived. I took everyone outside to run around while we waited for the bus, which they all enjoyed - especially Tommy who seems to love being outside no matter what the weather conditions are like! As soon as I spotted the bus rounding the corner I loaded the kids into the van so that we could hit the road as soon as Tommy headed to school. Everyone was in great, happy spirits and remained that way for the rest of the day!
More good stuff:
Savannah's appointment went very well -- her thumb is completely healed and she does not need physical therapy - hooray! The Dr. was very pleased with how good the incision area looks and was impressed by how well Savannah could move her thumb without being prompted to do so.
Isabella has officially graduated from "preschool" and is now doing Kindergarten work! About a month ago I noticed that the preschool workbooks were becoming too easy for her so I decided to invest in a couple of Kindergarten workbooks. Some of the work is a bit too challenging for her right now but the majority of it is right at her learning level!
Kyle has been working hard to grasp the concept of adding and subtracting fractions with an uncommon denominator and today everything "clicked" for him. He flew through his math work at lightening speed, making no mistakes along the way! Way to go, Kyle!!
We ended our night with another fantastic Cub Scouts den meeting. I've long since discovered that all boys (in general!) have minds that race faster than trains so I incorporate a lot of different material into my meetings. I felt a little A.D.H.D. myself tonight as we went from reviewing and discussing all aspects of the use of pocketknives and the requirements of the whittling chip card to jumping (quite literally) into working on the Athlete Activity Badge. From push ups to sit ups and jumping jacks to verticle jumps the boys had a BLAST as they plowed through the requirements for this specific badge. It was a fun meeting for all! :)
And so, because of all of these good things that happened today - despite my rough start! - I truly believe that A Positive Outlook Changes Everything!
