I spent much of Thursday and all of Friday packing the van for our trip to Vermont. Anyone who knows me well knows that I have a real problem when it comes to packing..I feel the need to over pack in a major way.
With Jim working double shifts 4-5 days per week I had to not only pack for everyone by myself but then I had to pack the van by myself, too. It was no small task!
We hit the road at 5p on Friday night and arrived in Vermont about 4 hours later. It took us about an hour longer than usual because we had to make a few stops along the way but overall the ride went by quickly and smoothly. Kyle is used to the ride and kept himself entertained. Bella was in one of her high maintenance moods; I need my sunglasses!, I need a snack!, I'm thirsty, now! etc. Savannah did fairly well until about 2 1/2 hours into the ride. Then she decided she didn't want to sit quietly anymore. Within 30 minutes flat she had worked herself up into quite a fuss so we ended up stopping for about 15 minutes to give her a bottle. It was after 9p when we arrived at Dad's house in Vermont. By 10p we had the van unloaded and all 3 kids were fast asleep.
At 5a I heard Bella whispering excitedly to Kyle about how she was in "Dermont". By 5:15a all 3 kids were awake and flying around the house. Vermont is their Disney World, afterall.
Jim, Kyle, Bella and Delila went for a walk through the woods:
Delila was very well behaved and enjoyed spending lots of time outdoors!
It was great to see Jim relaxing for a change!
Savannah loves dandelions
Kyle had SO much fun riding through the woods on his ATV!
There were lots of mud puddles and logs to ride over; he was in heaven!
He spent hours every day riding around, as did Jim!
The weather was picture perfect every day. The temps were in the high 70's, no humidity and an occasional nice breeze. Savannah was quite content to just sit in her playpen out on the deck:
We were so happy to Savannah wasn't at all shy around Grampy! She spent a lot of time hanging out in his lap, smiling away!
Grampy spent TONS of time with the kids! He couldn't get up to use the bathroom without one of them saying "Where did Grampy go? Where's Grampy??"
The people across the street have a bunch of baby goats. I found this little structure to be so interesting..the goats climb up and down it like a mountain! Guess it keeps them busy!
One of my most favorite views of the river, right across the street from my Dad's:
My most favorite part of our weekend: Horseback Riding!!
Kyle rode all by himself! He did a great job!
Bella LOVED being up on the horse!!
And we're off..!
I tried to take this picture of Jim & Bella while I was riding my horse but I couldn't quite turn myself around enough in the saddle to get a good shot!
We thought we'd take the kids over to the lake to play in the sand, figuring the water would be too cold to swim in. We were wrong!
Kyle jumped right in!
Yet another little water bug!
This baby ate SO much sand! She was eating it like it was candy!!!
A little snuggling time w/ Grampy
Bella saw a bat for the first time and was absolutely captivated by it
Hahaha, that Grampy sure is a funny man!
It sure was nice to be able to spend so much time with Grampy!
All in all, we had an awesome long weekend! The kids got lots of fresh air every day & were exhausted by the time we loaded them into the car on Monday night:
