Big House Project '09 Part 5

We had another gorgeous weekend weather-wise! The skies were blue & the sun was shining...can't ask for more than that! The Vargas' were hard at work on the house.. as usual!

Below: I didn't realize that those shingles were so heavy - weighing in at approx 100 lbs! Jim & his Dad quickly came up with a plan as to how to get them onto the roof. Once again the rope & ladder saved the day! It was hard work, but a lot easier than hauling them up on their shoulders!

Below: Jim preparing to get the windows installed

Below: Jim's youngest brother Frank came to help install one of the windows

Below: Frank watching Jim monkey his way up to the top..

Below: That rickety, rusty old staging makes me nervous!!! Not to mention all the wood w/ nails piled underneath it!

Below: Jim trying to balance on that small piece of plywood

Below: Up goes the first window! This window will be part of the new bathroom upstairs..although we aren't quite sure exactly WHEN we'll be turning that room into a bathroom..

Below: I'm so glad I got this picture of Jim taking the wrapping/packaging off of the window. He INSISTED he took it off before he climbed up to the top with it!! Of course, that's what he SHOULD'VE done!

Below: The window fits in perfectly! Well, almost. Jim tells me it was off center by like 16th of an inch. As many already know - Jim is a perfectionist. After having gotten the window completely installed he ended up taking it out & putting it in "exactly" straight. It's perfect now!! :)

Below: Jim making sure the window is level

Below: It's straight already!! Get down from there!!

Below: The next window hole is cut. This window is part of Kyle's room.

Below: The final window hole is cut. Both of these windows are part of Kyle's new room

Below: Kyle goes upstairs to check it out..

Below: Papa Joe gets ready to help with the installation of the next window

Below: And in it goes..!
In addition to installing two of the three windows, Jim & his Dad also finished the roofing job. Well, half of it. The front of the house still needs to be done, but that will come in time. Tomorrow the 3rd window will go in & then Jim needs to build a wall inside. After that we have to wait for the Building Inspector to give us the green light to continue on with the project. Jim has done everything (and then some) that the Building Inspector requested so there shouldn't be any problems regarding the inspection.
