I've been feeling pretty uncomfortable since Friday night. The baby feels like a heavy bowling ball sitting low in my belly, making it hard for me to walk. I don't think he can drop any lower. He's still really active though.. which leads me to believe that he's not quite ready to make his entrance into this world just yet. My whole stomach rolls around when he's moving - I can't imagine he has much space in there. In fact, I'm certain he must feel just as uncomfortable as I do now!
Yesterday morning Jim took Kyle and Bella to the Lowe's Build & Grow Workshop. While Kyle has been several times before, this was Bella's first time being able to participate. (Being 5 has it's advantages!!) Jim said the workshop was packed but the kids had a lot of fun building "Haunted Houses". Kyle's fellow friend from Cub Scouts - Brandon - was there, too.
After dinner last night we took the kids over to the local church parking lot where the girls rode their bikes and Kyle + Jim raced their remote controlled hobby "toys". Both girls really enjoy riding their bikes now; Bella has mastered riding without training wheels! Kyle has been borderline obsessed with racing his remote controlled monster truck. For a long time the truck was out of commission, in need of a new motor. Jim helped him fix it earlier last week and since then Kyle has been racing it as often as he possibly can, which is great. I should note here that neither Jim's nor Kyle's "toys" are really toys. You can't buy these remote controlled trucks/cars at a place like Wal-Mart. They can only be purchased at an actual hobby store. They have motors and take special batteries etc...and they're very costly. That being said, when you have a Dad like Jim you're kind of forced to skip right over the "kiddie toys" and instead go straight to the "real stuff". It took Kyle some time to learn how to control his truck, but he's a pro at it now (and far better than I could ever hope to be..!).
When we got home from doing that it was getting dark out and nearing the girls bedtime. Jim took Kyle up to a co-workers house in Rehoboth who had a huge outdoor Halloween display. I guess the guy sets up his entire yard with all sorts of scary/funny Halloween gadgets, plays spooky music and even has movies running via a projection t.v. outside! Kyle had a blast and was good & tired by the time they got home, around 9:30p.
Today Jim is taking Kyle to Plimoth Plantation. He bought tickets a while ago but the weather has not been cooperating on the weekends so their trip has been postponed multiple times. In preparation for this little day trip I had Kyle read a couple of books about the Mayflower so that he'll have a better understanding of things at the Plantation. He also did a book report on the Mayflower, too. He really enjoys History so I know he will have a fantastic time today!
In a couple of weeks Jim is supposed to start his new 4 day (10 hours per day) work schedule at Nestle. If all goes planned, he will have Friday's off. Having him home on Friday's is going to be a huge help for me, especially since by then the new baby should be here! It will be really great for him to be able to spend some extra time with our family.
I spent some time getting the girls Halloween costumes all set. They both want to be a witch so I bought them each a witch hat (complete with neon "stringy" hair that's glued into the hat!). They both have some Halloween-Themed clothes - so I'm going to dress them in that stuff, plop their hats on and have Jim paint their faces. Easy peasy! Kyle is unsure of what he wants to be...I think he's leaning towards being some sort of a Zombie, though.. Savannah is especially excited about Halloween this year. She's been practicing saying "Trick Or Treat" for weeks now, haha! I have to give Erin a call to see if her and Andrew will be joining us this year (well, not me -- I'll be staying home this time!) as they've done for the past few years.. but I have a feeling they won't be. Unfortunately, since their move to Barrington, Andrew and Kyle's friendship has drifted apart. Andrew lives in a community full of kids, so he's made lots of friends right in his own neighborhood. Combine that with the fact that he participates in sports which keep him busy for hours after school and there's just not a lot of time left for him to see Kyle. I still stay in touch with Erin, though. I wish we could see each other more often but it's just not in the cards for us right now. We're kind of on opposite schedules these days..
