Cleaning and Gardening

The search for our "dream home" continues - but it's slow going, to say the least.  The market doesn't seem to be in our favor anymore.  It's amazing how quickly the window opens and closes, although it comes as no surprise to us since we've been through this before.  Jim & I continue to explore sections of Attleboro, Rehoboth and Dighton, where the land is plentiful & the houses are large.  Unfortunately, that kind of land & those types houses come with a hefty price tag - one that we're not willing to entertain at this time in our lives.  Despite this, we've decided to give our Real Estate Agent the green light to put our house on the market for a short period of time.  Jim wants to see what kind of bites (if any) we get.  Because of the way the market is right now we're left with very little negotiating room when it comes to what we're able to sell this house for.  We know what we *need* to get for it & we can't take a dollar less.  Suffice to say, we know that there's a great possibility we'll be hanging out here for a while longer - which we're fine with.
The only issue I'm having with all of this is that whenever our Real Estate Agent needs to come over I have to make sure the house is as clean as it can possibly get - inside and out.  This is proving to be an exhausting task for me because I really can't get the house in order until after the kids are in bed for the night.  Yesterday I decided to get a jump start on things around 4p....3 1/2 hours before the kids went to bed.  In the end, I didn't finish until 10:30p and I went to bed feeling terribly guilty over having yelled at the kids numerous times during my cleaning spree; "Don't go upstairs!  You are NOT allowed to play upstairs until after Patty leaves tomorrow!  No, you can NOT play with puzzles...I JUST put them all away!!" etc etc.  The one good thing is that so far Patty (Realtor) is usually able to come first thing in the morning (by 9a) so the house doesn't have to remain picture perfect for long.  And I've already decided that if anyone is interested in seeing the house, they will have to wait until a weekend and it will have to be in the morning.  With 3 kids, a husband, a dog and a cat (although the cat is the easiest one of the lot!) I can't be expected to have Patty show this house without sufficient notice.  Not only will I need time to get the house in order, but I'll also need time to formulate a game plan to get everyone - including the dog - out of the house.  The plan for now is to take everyone over to Jim's parents and to limit Patty to a 2 hr time frame.
Jim and I took advantage of the beautiful weather yesterday morning and did a lot of work in the gardens while the kids played contently in the backyard.  We put new mulch down around the apple tree and in the flower garden.  The flowers are just starting to pop up now and already they look beautiful!  Jim cleared out the vegetable garden so we can start planting things in a few weeks.  Last year we grew a lot of vegetables indoors until the weather warmed up enough to plant them in the ground but I found that to be a lot of work.  This year I'm going to get the kids more involved.  I'll dig the holes and let them drop the seeds in - and I'm also going to have them make labels on popsicle sticks so that we'll know what's growing.  It should be a fun project!
