The 'Season Of Magic' is upon us and it's wrapped around my children like a warm blanket. The magic can especially be seen in their eyes; a bright sparkle, and in their faces; pure excitement!
It's really not so much about believing in Santa as much as it's about believing in magic. Both Kyle and Isabella believe in Santa in the same ways that they believe in the Easter Bunny and the Toothfairy. It's all about the magic...
They know that the Santa's in the mall and various stores aren't really Santa; they're Santa's helpers. They're ordinary people dressed up in costumes helping to making the magic more real. Afterall, it's much easier to believe in something that you can actually see, which is why some people don't believe in magic.
Our little family is full of believers, though. The magic is felt in our hearts. For Jim and I, it comes in the form of 3 beautiful children. For the kids, it's magical to have a Christmas Tree in the house, decorated with ornaments and lights. It's magical to have lights wrapped around the house outside. And the biggest magic of all happens on Christmas morning, when we all get to celebrate a very special birthday and wrapped gifts surround the tree for everyone.
It's so important to Jim and I that our children grow up to be 'givers'. That they willingly bring happiness to others, without always being prompted to do so. That they help others to believe in magic and in specific, the magic of this particular holiday.
Right now we know of one family in particular who is struggling to find that magic. They're a great family, with huge loving hearts, but luck never seems to be on their side. They work so hard for the things they want but those very things are always just out of their reach. It saddens me to see them so down and depressed right now, especially when my home is full of laughter and happiness. I want nothing more than to share it with them. To give to them something that I have an abundance of. And so today the kids are going to make some brightly colored Christmas cards for them and deliver them with a few batches of Christmas cookies - to let them know that we're thinking of them & to hopefully bring a much needed smile to their faces. I want my kids to see how doing something so small can make such a big difference in the lives of someone else.
