Bored? Not If Your Name Is Kyle Vargas!!!

Recently a friend of mine was telling me how her kids are always complaining about being bored when they're home. She asked me if Kyle gets bored often, seeing as how he's homeschooled. She good naturedly said "I bet he watches a lot of television, huh?"
Nope - just the opposite on both counts. Kyle rarely watches television (absolutely NONE during the week & very limited on the weekends, if at all) & is almost never bored. He is, by far, the busiest little boy I've ever known..
The proof is in the pictures:
Here he is fixing his model firetruck & cars that he put together all by himself. The problem with models (that he's quickly discovering) is that they're very delicate & not exactly "toys" - they fall apart easily but fortunately he seems to enjoy fixing them as much as he does building them:

We homeschool for about 2-3 hrs per day. I usually break it up so he does half in the morning & then half in the afternoon. It's AMAZING to me how much he gets done in such a short amount of time. Every day he does spelling, grammar, math, reading, writing, science & history. He usually does about 10-15 worksheets per day. I'm sure if you ask him he would say THIS is the only boring part of his day:

For Christmas Beth & Josh got him this "Build It Yourself" model V-8 Engine. While the package recommends that your child be at least 12 yrs of age we know that with a little help from Daddy Kyle would be able to tackle it in no time:

Here Kyle is reading some (very detailed!) directions on how to accomplish the next step in building the engine:

Putting together this model engine was no easy task. It required a lot of time & patience but with each step accomplished Kyle grew more & more excited:

There were hundreds of pieces & tiny wires that had to be glued & screwed into the model but with Jim supervising Kyle did a spectacular job! When the crank is turned the gears move to show you how the inside of a real engine works. Amazing:

Santa brought Kyle a "Cast & Paint" Rocket set. He had to mix the molding & let it dry overnight:

When the molding dried he got to paint the different rockets with various colors. Unfortunately I forgot to take an "after" picture! I'll do that soon & post it. They came out really cool looking:

Nana & Papa Joe got him this GREAT Science Kit for Christmas that came with all sorts of fun activities! I didn't get pictures of everything (yet) but here are some of the things he did..
He had to use a special tool to dig out fossils from this big pile of sand & piece together a dinosaur:

He built this bug habitat all by himself. It comes with a water bottle to feed the bugs, too. The bugs that he can't wait to catch come Spring time. You can just imagine how much I'm looking forward to that!
Currently he's growing crystals in the basement (pictures to come soon) & he also put together an indoor/outdoor thermometer, too! The Science Kit was a HUGE hit & he's very eager to do the next activity which I believe has something to do with lava...fun fun!
Our neighbors Mike & Joan bought Kyle some really cool Lego Building Sets for Christmas - check out the creativity involved in this masterpiece which consists of a firehouse, a few helicopters, some satellites, a motorcycle, two rescue boats & a bunch of "firemen"& some road blocks:

A Lego Fire Rescue Boat:

Building with Lego's is something Kyle really enjoys. He'll spend hours creating all sorts of things from planes to trains, helicopters to trucks, cars to houses. He can now read (and follow) directions all by himself & is able to construct all sorts of fun things:

So, as you can clearly see, this is one little boy who really doesn't have the time TO be bored!
Just like his Dad, he is constantly doing SOMETHING - and I'm happy to say that more often than not it's something constructive.
This week he's keeping busy creating hand made Valentines Day cards for family & friends. He's also in the middle of building a garage for his matchbox cars, built out of popsicle sticks!
Check back soon for more fun pictures!
