Grateful For Spilt Milk

Dear Kyle & Isabella,
Last night Kyle decided to pour himself a cup of milk while I was getting ready to put Isabella to bed. He didn't realize just how heavy a gallon of milk is & as a result I heard the words "Mama!! I spilt milk!!!" coming from the kitchen. I had to stop what I was doing with Isabella to go clean up the milk. And I was aggravated beyond belief as I asked Kyle why couldn't he wait just a FEW minutes for ME to get him the milk?!?! I know he was only trying to help himself because he knew I was busy but still..I was annoyed.
Later that night, after both of you were in bed, I sat down & thought about life's little annoyances such as:
Spilt milk
Glitter all over the floor
Changing a diaper only to have to change it again 2 minutes later
Dishes & glasses next to the sink instead of IN the sink
Little plastic army guys in the bath tub (that I step on every darn day!)
Sticky messes all over the kitchen table
Socks on the floor next to the hamper instead of IN the hamper
Sneakers on the floor in the kitchen, instead of in the "shoe closet" where they belong
Opened mail & other misc. items such as screws, nails, flashlights etc on top of the microwave
Toothpaste all over the bathroom sink & smudges on the bathroom mirror
Sitting down & having to get right back up almost instantly because someone needs something
These are a few of the things that annoy me.
And as I sat on the couch thinking about these things it dawned on me how incomplete my life would be if not for these little annoyances. How incomplete my life would feel without my children & my husband in it. How some day these annoyances might be gone.
And I realized, in that moment, how truly grateful I am for everything in my life, including spilt milk.
