Feeling A Bit Blue..

I had my 9 month check-up at the Dr's yesterday. I've gained 4 lbs in 3 weeks & seem to be getting bigger by the second! The Dr did a full exam & discovered that the baby's head is very low. In his words "You could give birth tonight or you could give birth next week but I doubt you will go past this weekend". Infact, when he made my weekly appointment for next wednesday he said "I won't be here, I'll be on vacation but that's okay because I bet you won't be here either!" I then told him how we were supposed to go to Pittsfield, MA this coming Sunday. (Gina's daughter Natalie is being baptised & Jim and I were asked to be her godparents) Unfortunately he strongly advised me not to go. Pittsfield is 2 1/2 hrs away from us. He said if I decide to go to be prepared to give birth at a hospital over there (which is something I really do not want to do!!) if I go into labor. He went on to say that since this is my 2nd baby labor & delivery "should" go quickly & I should stay close to home from here on out. So after much thought Jim & I have decided that it's best to follow Dr's orders. I have been experiencing "some" irregular painful contractions & LOTS of regular Braxton Hicks contractions for over a week now. And I'm 2 cm dialated.
It's true that no one knows for sure when this baby will come. But taking chances at this stage of the game doesn't seem very smart.
That being said, I'm very sad that we have to miss out on Natalie's big day. I'm sure some family members are questioning our decision to stay home. I hope they all know how upset we are that we can't make it & how if we could be there, we would! If we could see the future things would be easier but such is not the case! We're taking into consideration the fact that Kyle was born earlier than his due date & all along I've felt that this baby is going to come early too. So whether she comes before Natalie's baptism or after - we'll still be disappointed that we missed out on her day but we feel like we're making the right decision by staying close to the hospital at this point.
